AADSAS Application

To apply to a dental school, you must first fill out an AADSAS application through the ADEA. They will start taking information mid-May in 2006. Once everything is verified, including your grades, then your application will be forwarded to the individual schools.

Submit your application as early as possible! ADEA will forward your application only after they receive and verify your transcripts, letters of recommendations, application, and fee. It will takes weeks for this verification process. The sooner you submit, the earlier the interview. Most schools (not all) accept students on a rolling basis; so first come, first serve. See the AADSAS website for more information and for changes to the 2006 cycle.

To help me with my application, I purchased the 195-page e-book Ultimate Dental School Admission Guide by Dr. Aly Kanani.

I remember that I couldn't see what the application looked like until AADSAS was open in June. That bugged me. So, I have offered a copy of my 2005 AADSAS application. This is exactly what I submitted - including spelling errors! Remember, questions may have changed for the 2006 cycle.

Once the schools review your information and if they are interested in meeting you, they will send you a secondary application directly. This application may be shorter than AADSAS or even longer (eg, UNC's secondary application asked many, many more personal questions.) Your interview date may be included in this packet with the secondary application or it may come separately after they have received your secondary.

Interviews start as early as October and continue as late as February. My interviews were in September, December, and January.

As for my grades, I don't have electronic copies of my transcripts, but I can summarize everything in 2 lines:

Major: Environmental Engineering, Suma Cum Laude, UF, December 2000
Overall GPA: 3.81

Once you submit your application, it's time to study for the DAT (unless you've taken it already.)
